What is the Lyocell method?

The way in which bamboo bedding is produced, is itself crucial for the quality and environmental impact of the textile. In order to transform the raw organically grown bamboo shoots into a soft textile material, the bamboo undergoes a softening process. In short, this process involves breaking down the bamboo and converting it into raw cellulose. (100% viscose from bamboo) The process is crucial for the hard bamboo to be converted into a soft and delicious textile material. This conversion process can be carried out using a number of different conversion methods.

Nordic Weaving's bamboo bedding is produced using the renowned Lyocell method, which is known to be the most gentle and environmentally friendly processing process. In contrast to more conventional methods, the Lyocell method uses a closed loop, where almost all residues from the process are recycled (99%), rather than being discharged into nature.

Furthermore, in the extraction of cellulose from bamboo, instead of the often used chemically produced solvents, the Lyocell method uses an organic solvent called N -Methylmorpholine N -oxide. For these reasons, the Lyocell method is considered one of today's most sustainable production methods for making textiles.

Why choose the lyocell method?

  • The bamboo is dissolved with a non-toxic organic solvent and in a closed loop where up to 99% is recycled.
  • The dissolution process is less energy-intensive and therefore better for the environment.
